Jan Tillett is a textile designer/maker living and working in Devon.
Inspired by the colours and textures of the landscape, Jan uses a variety of fabrics and threads to create distinctive textiles using free motion embroidery techniques.
As well as dyeing her own fabrics Jan uses recycled fabrics and remnants in her work. The embroidered pieces are then used to create contemporary, tactile accessories.
The Handbags
All of the handbags are individually made. The fabrics used are remnants and recycled materials. As well as creating a general range of handbags, Jan also produces seasonal collections of bags inspired by a particular theme. Her autumn/winter 2009 collection, to be launched at an exhibition at Knightshayes Court in October, is based on the theme ‘Leaves and Lace’ and will include bags made from fabrics dyed using natural ingredients.
Jan also has a small range of Alpaca handbags made with fabric from Alpacas farmed on the Blackdown Hills.
An experienced teacher, Jan regularly runs machine embroidery workshops.
