EXHIBITION 2007              ‘Stroud in Stitches’

The Members of the Embroiderers' Guild, Stroud Branch are holding an Exhibition and Sale at the Old Town Hall, The Shambles, Stroud, Gloucestershire between June 9th and June 24th 2007. ‘Stroud in Stitches’ is held every third year. We attract visitors from all over the world to our exhibitions and admission is free. Do come and see us.

The Grand opening will be at 11.00 am on Saturday 9th June by the local MP David Drew and the opening hours are Weekdays 10.00 AM until 5.00 PM and Weekends 11.00 AM until 4.00 PM.

The pieces shown here will be on display along with many more pieces of embroidery. We also hope to show a display of photographs taken at our workshops and talks. Many of us are avid card makers and we aim to have a wide range to sell at the exhibition.

Stroud in Gloucestershire is in a beautiful part of the country and has a fine tradition of Arts and Crafts. The Arts Festival is on at from the 11th to the 19th if you would like to combine your visit, and, for those whose partners prefer other pursuits the area has many different places to visit and things to do.

The area around was largely sheep country and the plentiful supply of water meant that the area was suitable for making woollen cloth. Over a hundred mills were built and most of the population were involved in the cloth trade at the height of production between 1750 and 1820. We still have mills in production in the area and also restored mills at nearby Nailsworth to visit.

Gloucestershire is a beautiful County and is easily accessible. Maps of the area along with train timetables and car parking facilities can be obtained from the Stroud Town Website on www.stroudtown.com and other information can be found on www.visitthecotswolds.org.uk .

Stroud is less than five miles from Junction 13 of the M5 Motorway. The A419 from Cirencester and the east and the A46 from Bath and the south run through the town. The train station is served by First Great Western and trains run from London, Paddington via Reading and also to Gloucester and Cheltenham.
